László Moholy-Nagy
László Moholy-Nagy was born in Bácsborsod, Hungary, in 1895. After his military service in World War I and completing a law degree, he took up painting and moved to Berlin. In 1923 Moholy-Nagy was appointed by Martin Gropius to teach at the Bauhaus in Weimar. Following a very active intermediate period of personal design work, films and exhibitions in Berlin beginning in 1928, he emigrated to the US and founded the New Bauhaus—American School of Design in Chicago in 1937. In his short lifetime, Moholy-Nagy published numerous books and participated in many exhibitions, both group exhibitions and one-man shows. He died in 1946.
