Martha Saxton

Martha Saxton teaches U.S. History and Women’s and Gender studies at Amherst College. Her books include Louisa May Alcott (Farrar Straus & Giroux, 1995) and Being Good: Women’s Moral Values in Early America (Hill and Wang, 2003). Saxton is currently working on a biography of Mary Ball Washington, mother of the first President of the United States.
