Robert Frank: Books and Films, 1947-2018
"Robert Frank: Books and Films, 1947–2018" continues its worldwide tour: In Marfa, Texas, a tiny town in the Chihuahua desert near the Mexican border, the experimental exhibition will be on view at Eugene Binder Gallery from 17 November 2018−2 January 2019.
Conceived by Robert Frank and Gerhard Steidl, the exhibition shows Frank’s work in photos, books and films in a direct accessible manner. His images are printed on sheets of newsprint and hung directly on the walls. After display all banners are destroyed to circumvent the normal cycle of speculation and consumption in the art market. When the idea for this pop-up show first reached Robert Frank in his small, crooked house in the Canadian village of Mabou, he said: "Cheap, quick, and dirty, that’s how I like it!"
Frank’s films and videos, which are so often overshadowed by his photographic work will be shown every Tuesday evening at the Crowley Theater, Marfa, and a selection of seven videos will be projected on small portable “beamers” onto the gallery walls.
