Steidl

In 1969 a teenage Gerhard Steidl set up his first printing workshop in an old garage at Bürgerstrasse 26 in Göttingen. With little more than his screen-printing frames, inks, and a brimming pot of ambition, he set to work. Today, half a century later, Steidl is still in Göttingen’s town center. We’ve grown and changed but our motto is still the same: we believe in print.

The soundtrack to this little clip? “Dallas Rag” by the New Lost City Ramblers, a traditional tune on the first vinyl record Steidl ever bought. The banjo player in the band is John Cohen, passionate musician and photographer, now 87 years old. On 12 August John visited Steidlville to make two new books, both to be released this October.
