Henri Murger (1822–1861) studierte Malerei und verdiente seinen Lebensunterhalt als Journalist und Schriftsteller in Paris. Das Leben der Boheme kannte er aus eigenem entbehrungsreichen Erleben. Boheme machte ihn berühmt, sein weiteres Werk – Lyrik, Dramatik, Erzählungen – ist heute vergessen.
