In 1980 the young William Kentridge made a series of etchings with the title Domestic Scenes. 40 years later, Warren Siebrits has gathered all 54 images as well as 65 plate progressions not previously known to exist, to make a book: Domestic Scenes, published by Steidl in 2021 and now sold out. This deluxe edition, designed by Lunetta Bartz, contains a rare etching from the Domestic Scenes series, alongside a copy of the book with its large fold-out poster, all presented in a handmade clamshell box. Each exceptionally rare etching was printed by Kentridge in 1980 and shows a different image from the series. The publication of Domestic Scenes introduces a larger project by Siebrits, who has been commissioned by Kentridge to research and compile a six-volume catalogue raisonné of all the artist’s prints and posters from 1974 to the present, beginning with volume one (1974–1990), published by Steidl in 2022. Proceeds from the deluxe edition go towards the funding of the catalogue raisonné project.
