Old Berlin is lost, has been destroyed, a couple of times, definitely; no "Remake" can change this. But then, what is the new Berlin? There is only one thing for sure: that Berlin, today, only can be described as a stringing together of fast changing phenomena. Berlin as a city amidst big developments, Berlin as a metaphor for a step into the unknown. For the "Remake Berlin" project eight artists and six writers, males and females, national and international, locals and visitors, have taken photographs of and written about their topic Berlin. They approach the city in a careful way, they record its violent setting out laconically, they comment on a number of Berlin specific characteristics and pecularities with a dash of irony. Together, all these subjective glances at the city and its phenomena draw up a possible portrait of the city of Berlin. Photographs by Clegg & Guttmann, Astrid Klein, Rémy Markowitsch, Boris Mikhailov, Juergen Teller, Frank Thiel, Céline van Balen and Stephen Wilks. Texts by László Földény, Thomas Kapielski, Monika Maron, Emine Sevgi Özdamar, Paul Virilio and Matthias Zschokke.
