Robert Frank: Books and Films, 1947-2018
Right in time for the Daegu Photo Biennale 2018, the unconventional traveling exhibition Robert Frank: Books and Films, 1947–2018 continues at Art Space LUMOS, Daegu's new independent exhibition space dedicated to photography.
Conceived by Robert Frank and Gerhard Steidl, the exhibition shows Frank’s work in photos, books and films in a direct accessible manner: Frank’s images are printed on sheets of newsprint and hung directly on the wall and from the ceiling. A selection of Frank’s films and videos are shown on small portable “beamers”, projecting them directly onto the walls.
One of the pleasant and also practical side-effects of this concept is that a set-up team of two people can carry the entire exhibition under their arms, because it all fits on two to four cardboard rolls.
Each exhibition is to be disposed of after display, thus circumventing the normal cycle of speculation and consumption in the art market. When the idea for this pop-up show first reached Frank in his small, crooked house in the Canadian village of Mabou, he said: “Cheap, quick, and dirty, that’s how I like it!”
Lecture by Gerhard Steidl: Friday, September 7, 2:00pm
