Gleich hinter dem Hamburger Hauptbahnhof beginnt der Stadtteil St. Georg. Es ist kein Ort der großen Welt, sondern einer der kleinen Leute. Für den eiligen Besucher gibt es dort Liebe und verbotene Substanzen zu kaufen. Wer mehr Zeit mitbringt, dem öffnet sich ein kleiner Kosmos. Im Frühjahr 1981 streifte Dirk Reinartz (1947–2004) studierte Fotografie an der Folkwangschule in Essen. 1971–1977 war er Fotoreporter beim »Stern«. Reinartz lehrte Fotografie an der Muthesius-Hochschule in Kiel. Im Steidl Verlag erschienen zahlreiche seiner Bücher, u.a. »Innere Angelegenheiten« und »New York 1974«.
