Dieses Buch ist voller obszöner Bilder, aber im Verständnis des Philosophen Herbert Marcuse: "Nicht das Bild einer nackten Frau ist obszön, sondern das eines Generals, der seine in einem Aggressionskrieg verdienten Orden zur Schau stellt." Es ist ein irritierendes Panoptikum der alltäglichen Gewalt: Pressefotos von Straßenkämpfen, nackten Kriegsopfern oder gefolterten Häftlingen folgen inszenierte Body-Art-Bilder und allerlei Fundstücke rund um Lust, Macht, Entblößung und Überwachung. Das Buch ist ein Gesamtkunstwerk, anstößig im vielfachen Sinn des Wortes. Es könnte als künstlerisches Manifest über Gewalt im 21. Jahrhundert nicht aktueller sein. Doch "Pornografie" erschien bereits 1971 und wurde zu einem herausragenden und zeitlosen Dokument politischer Kunst.
